Ataturk made turkey a modern secular country. secular pretty much means non religious. Turkey was apart of the automen until it was disbanded after WWI. He pretty much wanted to make Turkey like the western countries (Europe and America), so he banned the use of the Fez h hat the Muslim men wore because when they prayed they touch their heads to the floor. he also insisted on the people wear regular clothing (hats and all). Thats how Ataturk modernized Turkey.

He used a non violent way,(which I think is a bad idea in the rise of power) naturaly people will go to war to gain independence (ie.
